This Week at the Shipps'

New things
1. Home Phone
2. Internet
3. Cable

It's been a while since we've had a home phone, and this is the first time we have had internet or phone. What a novelty.

I know I had more on this earlier when I typed it up before the compter died on me. I don't remember what it said though.

Here are some recent pictures from our trip to Ruston. The wedding photographer was great (an old friend of mine.) Check out her stuff Here. (Christin, you'll like it.)

Our Respective First Days

Yesterday was the big day for all the Shipps. Here's the run down.

Andrew: Classes went well. Not too much homework for the first day. He already loves Law School.

Rachel: The kids were alright. (There are lots of cuties and only a few stinkers.) It should be fairly enjoyable. (note: bring lunch on fish shapes day. They're no Chicken-shapes).

Gabriel: He did pretty good. He still didn't take the appropriate naps, but he wasn't yelling all day so that was good.

Another day at the office

I went to work again today for a partial day and to give Gabriel a little try in the baby room. My day went well. I think I am really going to enjoy the other two teachers that will be working with me. The students should be pretty fun, if not entertaining. We already had one Kindergarten Cop moment.

Gabriel did fine too, except that he didn't sleep the whole time. He should have taken two naps while he was there, but I guess there was just too much going on. I am sure he will get use to it. At least he wasn't crying though. They said he was great and that he just looked around the whole time. He didn't start crying until he saw me. Isn't that flattering?

Andrew had his first day of orientation today. He came home with 40 pages of homework due by Friday. This is going to be a long three years!

We're going *home* Friday and I won't even get to see my sister. This makes me very sad.

I just spent the last two hours "learning" about Movable type and I still have no clue what I'm doing. But I did add a few links.
I still can't figure out how to add those ticker things that say how old your baby is. can anyone tell me how/where to add that?

*********************************

We went to the Mayborn today. It only cost us 6 bucks (since Andrew is a student and Gabriel's a baby, they were free.) We were amazed. The place was huge and had so much to see. We spent 2 1/2 hours there and could have stayed much longer. We probably only saw half of it. There was a great children's hands-on wing. We played and explored most of it. I really should have taken my camera. (And I claim to be a photographer!) It was very enjoyable, not far from our place(you could walk if it wasn't so stinkin' hot), and it's deffinitely a place we'll go back to. If anybody ever comes to see us we could take them there. (There is also the Texas Rangers Museum, the Texas Sports Hall of Fame , the DR. Pepper Museum, and many more. There's also a water park we want to try out. But we figure it wouldn't be much fun with just us and a baby. I'm sure we'll give it a go sometime though.

So you see, it really isn't so bad. (I'm still trying to convince myself of that.)

Photo update

(I really need to work on better titles for my posts)

The week before we left Monroe we did a little photo shoot with the Bourgeois family. I had Adrienne snap a couple of the family and then I took some more. Our little guy is so cute!

I'll try to be more regular about getting pictures up. I know the world is anxious to see our beautiful boy.

(I also really need to figure out how to change more things on my blog. This place could use a little sprucing up. Maybe later this week while Andrew is at orientation and I am not, I'll be able to play around with this.)

First days

As far as first days of work go, mine was fine. It was really more of an orientation so I wasn't in charge. I forgot how easily kids become your friend though. I was in a classroom with four year olds and in a matter of minutes I was sitting on the floor for story time with three kids in my lap and two others wanting to be. I then spent the next couple of hours just playing with the kids at the various "centers." Over all I enjoyed it. I also met a co-worker whose husband is a law student too. We talked for a while and she gave me her husband's phone number and email address and told me that Andrew could call him any time with questions. I am thinking that maybe after I talk to her a couple more times we could invite them over. Maybe when we have them over we could also invite Kat's cousin and her boyfriend (who we met last weekend.) We'll see. That's a big jump that I'm not sure I'm ready to make yet.

****************
Gabriel is really getting around now. He isn't really up on all fours like the traditional crawl, but he is scooting around on his stomach and getting everywhere. We are now picking up important things from low places, and I've got to keep the floor a lot cleaner. Yesterday I picked him up after he'd been on the floor for ten minutes and his stomach and feet were kind of brown. (Good thing a bottle of soap spilled on the floor this morning!)
*****************
I still don't love it here, but I'm trying. And tomorrow we get to go to church.

Waco Shmaco

Well, we did it. We moved to Waco. And yes, it's every thing I thought it would be. It took me all of five days to realize how bored I really am and how much I miss *home*, family, and friends. Waco is a nice town and all...the people are friendly (even at Walmart the shelf-stocker asked if I needed help finding anything.) The aparment is ok (despite the filthiness we met upon arrival), but it's still an apartment. Waco has a lot to offer including Baylor in all it's grandeur, over 150 churches (mostly Baptist), a zoo with real bears, a small water park, lots of shopping (not that I'll be perusing many of the shelves outside walmart and HEB), oh, and starkbucks (we're learning to like cheap coffee first though.) All that...and I still don't love it. I'm sure with time it will get better. We'll make friends even though I'm afraid to.
I start work, Andrew starts school, and Gabriel starts daycare (akk, akk) the 21st. Before that though I go in for a trial run (of sorts) at work, Andrew has orientation, and we'll be headed back to LA for Andrew to be in a wedding. So I guess if I can make it through another week and a half I'll get to socialize again.

In other news, Gabriel took his first real crawl today. (I know you say "first steps" when refering to walking, but what do you say about crawling?) He also is really into the pool at the new place. (Especially when we climbed the fence to get in...more on that another time though.)

*************

Moving to a new place isn't all it's cracked up to be. I miss my real friends. Come visit any time! And I tell you what: If you say "You're my best friend" you can even have the good bed, I'll sleep on the couch!

**************
On the bright side though....Andrew gets to go to BAYLOR! And hey, it's only three years, right? We can do anything for three years/
