Weekend festivities

This weekend Gran came for a visit. We really enjoyed her time with us here in Waco. Gabriel expecially enjoyed his new high-chair. Gran felt sorry for him in his big high-chair that doesn't sit up all the way. (if anyone has a evenflow high-chair that leans back, let me know. I think that the one I have is supposed to sit up more than it does. Mom thinks that perhaps it just never worked right. We don't know any differently.) Gabriel looks so cute in his new chair!

Here's another shot of him playing with his daddy.

This afternoon we went out to a local farm and pumpkin patch. I wanted to get some pictures of Gabriel out there because I remembered seeing some pictures of Andrew at aa pumpkin patch when he was about the same age (within a month of it). Gabriel has a blast. He was so cute with all those pumpkins and gourds. I wish we would have taken the video camera.
These are for Aunt Christin.

Gabriel's firsts

A little over a week ago Gabriel had his first trip to the park (at least the first time he got out of my arms at a park.) He really enjoyed swinging with his first friend in Waco (outside of daycare.)

Tonight, Gabriel went on his first bike ride. As you can see, he was thrilled.

We had a great time though. And with the weather cooling off we have high hopes of getting into riding regularly. We rode around Baylor's campus and enjoyed seeing more of the campus than we have previously seen. I over-heard a few "aww"s as people saw Gabriel slumped over in the back seat!

We tried one of those front seats for the bike first, but it didn't really work that well. It made it very difficult to pedal. And as Andrew pointed out, if I'm not comfortable then it's not safe. How does that apply to bike seats though?

The little mad had another fall today too. Just as the big bruise on his forehead was beginning to fade, he fell today against the tv stand and scraped his nose and eyebrow and left a nasty bump. He didn'd cry too badly. I gave him some arnica, which, even if it doesn't help the bruising, he likes the taste of it so it calms him down. I don't have a picture of it, but here's another one of him just for fun.

Just like Monday

Wednesdays should never be like Mondays. Today was not the best day for Pre-K teachers. Or at least not for this one. It was a very trying day and a field trip to the fair didn't help the situation. Today was one of those days when I wonder why I want to work with kids at all. I wanted to ask other teachers how they do it, how they stay sane and patient when the kids and the parents are difficult. It's been a very overwhelming week and it's only half way over. It's a good thing I don't work weekends or I would be even crazier.

1st step

Just shy of 10 months old, Gabriel took his first step today! We were all sitting on the floor playing together when he turned loose of the chair and took a step. I'm not sure if he realzed what he was doing. It will probably be like his first word though. He said "puppy" several times in one day about a month ago, but hasn't said anything since then. So my guess is that he won't even try to take steps again for a while. We'll see though. It was very exciting!

The bruises on his head look terrible! I tried to make him wear a hat today to cover all those nasty spots up. He's just so pitiful.

Red, White, and Blue

Just as the bruises on his head were beginning to heal, Gabriel did it again. Today while visiting his daddy at school, he hit his head on a table. He made lots of noise but I don't blame him. He did a good job on his little noggin.
