Percentiles
Today both boys had check ups. Here's how it went:
Gabriel weighs 35.5 lbs and is 2' 11". He is still maintaining 95% on weight, and has gone from 50% on height, to 66%. If you follow the rule of doubling their height at two then adding two inches...he will be 6 feet tall. (That is also what you get when you average mom's and dad's height, then add two. Are there any other ways to predict height?) He also got a flu shot today. It's pretty tough to hold him down now! They also did a blood test. He was more concerned about the band aid on his finger than the actual finger prick.
(As a side note: It was kind of fun filling out the forms about his developmental milestones. Some of the questions I was supposed to ask him were fun. He was supposed to jump over the piece of paper, but instead he stood beside it and jumped about 6" in the air. He was also supposed to try to draw a straight vertical line...it was more scribbling all over the paper. I laughed a few times with him.)
Jonah weighs a whopping 17 lbs 11 oz! He is 2' 2". He has jumped from 5% on height and weight to 50% on weight and 35% on height. (I guess my thinking that he is long and skinny isn't accurate. He's just so much thinner than Gabriel was.) He is doing everything he is supposed to be doing and then some. I can't believe my baby is 6 months old! He is rolling all over the place. He can get across the living room with no problems. And much to my delight he is starting to hold his bottle.
Also, let it be known that I have reached my nursing goal ans am still going. Before he was born, and in light of how things went with Gabriel, my goal was to make it to 6 months. Even though he is not exclusively breast-fed, he is still doing it. Every day is a triumph for us. I don't plan to give up the night time feedings for a while ( I really like being able to nurse him in bed instead of getting up to fix a bottle at 5 am.) It's almost a game with myself now to see how long I can nurse him. Every time I go to a LLL meeting I think "this could be the last one" and then I get encouraged to keep going. I guess for now my goal could be until he gets teeth (Gabriel didn't get teeth until 10 1/2 months.) I have also been told be a couple of friends that every little bit helps toward being able to nurse the next baby. Hopefully next time it will be even better.
**************
We're leaving tomorrow for our 2 weeks of holiday traveling. Tomorrow to Nac., Christmas Eve we fly to Chicago, stay there until the 30th, then spend a few days in Ruston/Monroe. It should be fun, but I know it will be tiring. I'm sure I'll have plenty to post about when we return. Until then though....Merry Christmas!

Gabriel's Birthday Party
My little cowboy had a blast. It was a little exhausting for him (and for me) to have so much going on. We had 9 kids between the ages of 2 and 5, plus 2 babies, plus about 10 adults. The weather did not cooperate, so we had everyone inside. There was more than enough food for everyone. We played pin-the-badge-on-the-cowboy and had stick horse races. Gabriel only had one melt down. It was a good day!

Gabriel loves his stick horse. We had a tough time getting him to share. This was before the party...he didn't go to the party naked.

They didn't wear these long. But it was fun while it lasted.

More pictures from the party to come...

How we're doing
Jonah is growing like a weed. I am not sure exactly how much he weighs, but I am guessing around 17 lbs. He is edging into the 6-9 month clothes now. He's still long and somewhat thin (compared to what Gabriel looked like at this age.) His little thighs are beefing up though. He has a very pleasant personality and is sleeping well. Last week he finally made the turn from back to stomach (he's been going the other way for about 3 weeks.) Yesterday he had his first food. I've been trying for a couple of weeks to get him to eat rice cereal, but he wasn't interested. So I gave him some applesauce. He loved it. Today he ate a jar and a half (with rice cereal mixed in.) Much to my surprise he is still nursing (and getting a bottle.) He only nurses at night which is nice. I don't want to have to get up to fix a bottle! Each day that I continue to nurse him feels like a big accomplishment. Some days I think to myself "well, maybe this is it" and then I go to a LLL meeting and start trying to figure out how long I can make it. He is only nursing 2 or 3 times during the day then usually 2 times at night (before bed and around 6). Part of me wants to cut back to just the night time feedings and another part of me wants to jump back in full swing and try to cut down on the number of bottles (since he's eating food now too.) I don't know what I'll decide. Ask me in an hour and I'll say one thing...another hour later I'll change my mind. I guess for now, nothing is changing.
He'll be 6 months old next week!
Gabriel is getting big too. He'll be 2 on Friday! I can't believe it. We're planning a little party for him on Saturday and he has no clue. I know he doesn't care if we do anything or not, but he'll enjoy having friends and grandparents over. We picked up a wagon for him (from my parents) and it is sitting in the garage in the box. Every time we go out to get in the car he bends down and looks at the picture on the box and says "ooh, cool."
He is talking a ton. His favorite phrase is "what's that", which he says at least a hundred times a day. He loves wearing hats and playing with duplo blocks and cars. He's all boy. He also loves to climb. Last week I walked into his room to find him crying and his dresser laying face down on the floor. I think he was trying to get a hat off the top of the dresser. Fortunately he wasn't hurt.
Andrew is doing well the quarter in school. He is working as a research assistant for one of his professors and he really enjoys that. His schedule is much better the quarter. We are both ready for him to get done with class for the Holiday break so we can have fun with family in Nac., Chicago, and Ruston/Monroe.
As for me...I'm doing well. As is typical I have gotten myself involved in way too much and thus have things going on just about every day. I am really enjoying my Stroller Strides class and getting to know other moms in the area. It's been really good for me.
The wedding was wonderful, as was our visit from the newlyweds. We're going to miss them. But now we have a reason to go to CA!
I'll post pictures some time later. Gabriel is being way to quiet, and Jonah is being way too loud!

Sorry, no music. I couldn't find anything I liked and I don't know how to upload my own.
